inhaling nitrous oxide (laughing gas) on intensive care monitoring

in this video, i am inhaling nitrous oxide (N2O, laughing gas) from a total of two balloons continuously without breathing air… so it’s basically a 3 minute breath hold!

my heart rate goes berserk, and my oxygen saturation drops to a *really* low value.

DO NOT DO ATTEMPT TO DO THIS AT HOME, especially not using a mask – severe health problems as well as suffocation / death may result.
it is NOT safe to do nitrous oxide without monitoring of an anesthetist in a hospital environment.

  1. PaulGaijin Said,

    Really cool …
    Really cool watching how your body responded to the lack of oxygen… great vid!

    Also I agree, people should have easily realized that you edited your voice in afterwards… silly people. :)

  2. weirdstuffanimation6 Said,

    where is it …
    where is it possible to buy an intensive care unit

  3. bionerd23 Said,

    i got mine on ebay.

  5. bionerd23 Said,

    it makes you fade …
    it makes you fade into a dreamland, cause amnesia, vivid hallucinations, a feeling of absolute happiness and comfort (”like in heaven”).

  6. undeadsos5 Said,

    i see so wht does …
    i see so wht does it feel like when u take laughing gas? :P

  7. bionerd23 Said,

    what’s the point in …
    what’s the point in going to a cinema? having fun, i suppose… just, this is my way of having fun. i enjoy it… pure and simple. and as other people seem to enjoy the video, too, i put it on the internet. :P

  8. undeadsos5 Said,

    interesting video …
    interesting video but….(no offense) what is the point?

  10. bionerd23 Said,

    0:00 -> yep
    0:21 – …

    0:00 -> yep
    0:21 -> yes, LVOT PVC
    0:39 -> yes
    0:52 -> simply a monotop PVC couplet
    1:08 -> yes
    2:33 -> just a monotop PVC on an unsteady zero baseline (caused by breathing)
    2:51 -> technically still sinus tachy, but yeah.
    2:56 / 3:00 -> hmm, i think they’re just monotop LVOT PVCs again

  11. bionerd23 Said,

    3:33 -> didnt hear …
    3:33 -> didnt hear that term yet, but yeah – the sinus impulse hit a refractory myocardium due to the excitation from the extrasystole / PVC; the beat is thus “skipped” and only the next sinus impulse is transmitted into a “normal beat”.

    overall: VERY well done! =)

  12. ancxxxsold13r Said,

    Oh ok thanks for …
    Oh ok thanks for explaining…i just was wondering why.

  13. MitchGallina Said,

    I LOVE all your …
    I LOVE all your videos D:
    Especially the mercury ones xD
    I’ve been studying how to read an ECG for a tiny while now, so I’m going to take a few wild guesses :3
    correct me if I’m wrong D:

    0:00 -> normal sinus rhythm
    0:21 -> uni focal PVC ?
    0:39 -> sinus tachycardia?
    0:52 -> no idea D: (possibly couplet PVC with AV block)
    1:08 -> sinus tachycardia D:
    2:33 -> multi focal PVC with s/w depression
    2:51 -> normal sinus rhythm
    2:56 -> multi focal PVC
    3:00 -> another ” ”
    3:33 -> sinus exit block

  14. bionerd23 Said,

    okay, here’s how it …
    okay, here’s how it works: i record the video with my camera. i put the video on my computer. i load it into windows movie maker. i then plug in a microphone. i then choose “add spoken commentary”. the movie runs on my screen, and i talk into the microphone, adding spoken annotations to the movie. i then save the whole thing and upload it to youtube.

    man, i think it was so obvious that i did the speaking LATER – when editing the video – that i dont have to mention it. obviously i am wrong.

  15. ancxxxsold13r Said,

    Good vid….but at …
    Good vid….but at 1:10 it seemed like you were talking and inhaling at the same time?

  16. bionerd23 Said,

    nope. i’m just …
    nope. i’m just self-educated. ;-)

  17. sexcimystic Said,

    lol funny cuz im nozzed out ha

  18. VAdirtyS Said,

    I’m just assuming …
    I’m just assuming that you have some sort of educational background in the medical field?

  19. sexcimystic Said,

    watevers ur lame cuz if u really did noz u would bee passen out and u just semmed ok talken real well
    nice video but its so fake lol

  20. sexcimystic Said,

    *semmed

  21. bionerd23 Said,

    your such an idiot …
    your such an idiot because of course i cannot talk when i am breathing from a balloon, so i did the talking later. you know, using a microphone while having the movie in the editor. probably too hard for you to understand how this works, but it does! :P

    jeez, all those people with an IQ near their body temperature in degrees celsius are getting a bit on my nerves. ^_^

  22. sexcimystic Said,

    ur such a faker …
    ur such a faker because when u nozz it ur voice gets deeper……

  23. goonage Said,

    This is a really …
    This is a really hard video to watch! Why would you do this?! I hope there was someone there with you?

  24. bionerd23 Said,

    no, there wasnt …
    no, there wasnt anybody with me. i usually do all my experiments alone. :P
    dont worry, i know what i am doing, though… this wasnt really that dangerous.

  25. bionerd23 Said,

    lol, that’s the AF …
    lol, that’s the AF on the monitor; respiratory frequency (AF is for atemfrequenz, it’s german). also, you can see the pulse on the SpO2 (pulse oximeter) reading. a pulse is generated by a beating heart, in case you didnt know. so simply pulling the sensor off gives an error, not a desat.
    that pretty much proves that this machine is hooked up to a human (my) body… but only if you have knowledge and understanding about medical equipment, which YOU do not seem to have. ;-)
