It drives me nuts when people cite cold temperature as their proof that global climate change does not exist. If people did any research for themselves they would learn that it is a change in extreme weather, floods, droughts, hurricanes, and local temperatures both hot and cold.

Methane is 24 times for potent as a greenhouse gas than CO2. Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs – purely a man-made gas) not only destroys the ozone but contributes greatly to the greenhouse gas effect. Nitrous Oxide and other agricultural and industrial gases contribute greatly to the problem. If your denier friends want empirical evidence, all they have to do is look for photos online of ice/glaciers melting at alarming rates. Ice melts when it gets hotter, not colder. Faux News has dubious motives.

I’d like to see the “powers that be” simply take a logical approach and not limit economic growth at the price of protecting the environment, but I equally think there are MANY ways in which we could clean up our act. interesting, I think where we may find a diffierence is that my stat is from Feb ‘08 and that your first stat is a simulation. I personally wouldn’t trust a simulation of our planet, I believe there are too many variables to get it right. I also must agree with you when you say that we are destroying our planet, but I believe that our major problems are on and beneath the surface of the earth, not above it.

We have and still are altering the face of the planet do such a degree that millions of other species (and us) are under threat. Even if the climate stabilizes, we’ve still got serious problems and stopping our polluting ways can only benefit all involved. Fox News doesn’t seem to link environmental health with human health.

I promote a greener world, but I don’t think global warming is as big as it seems. As an answer to your challenge to use science to debunk global warming, try this: the NOAA (same people that studied the glacial regions and said that 5 million squar miles of ice had gone down to 1.5 million) is now saying that ice levels are almost back to their original levels. Moreover, a Feb. 18 (2008) report says that there is nearly 1/3 more ice the antartic than usual. No name calling here, just facts.

Myth? Ice melts because it’s getting colder? Why don’t those who deny global warming come up with some SCIENCE to prove their point instead of merely name-calling. On what scientific methods are they basing their position? The earth’s climate does change throughout history due to the Milankovitch cycles etc, but that’s measurable. Are we in one? Humans are pumping more than JUST CO2 into the atmosphere. Many gases are much more harmful, but I guess the concept of greenhouse gases is a myth too?
