Earliest atmosphere
The outgassings of the Earth was stripped away by solar winds early in the history of the planet until a steady state was established, the first atmosphere. Based on today’s volcanic evidence, this atmosphere would have contained 80% water vapor, 10% carbon dioxide, 5 to 7% hydrogen-sulfur, and smaller amounts of nitrogen, carbon monoxide, hydrogen, methane and inert gases.
A major rainfall led to the buildup of a vast ocean, enriching the other agents, first carbon dioxide and later nitrogen and inert gases. A major part of carbon dioxide exhalations were soon dissolved in water and built up carbonatic sediments.
Second atmosphere
Water related sediments have been found dating from as early as 3.8 billion years ago [7]. About 3.4 billion years ago, nitrogen was the major part of the then stable “second atmosphere.” An influence of life has to be taken into account rather soon in the history of the atmosphere, since hints of early life forms are to be found as early as 3.5 billion years ago[8]. The fact that this is not perfectly in line with the – compared to today 30% lower – solar radiance of the early sun has been described as the “Faint young Sun paradox”.The geological record however shows a continually relatively warm surface during the complete early temperature record of the Earth with the exception of one cold glacial phase about 2.4 billion years ago. Sometime during the late Archaean era an oxygen-containing atmosphere began to develop, apparently from photosynthesizing algae which have been found as stromatolite fossils from 2.7 billion years ago. The early basic carbon isotopy (isotope ratio proportions) is very much in line with what is found today, [9] suggesting that the fundamental features of the carbon cycle were established as early as 4 billion years ago.
Third Atmosphere
Oxygen content of the Atmosphere since one Billion yearsThe accretion of continents about 3.5 billion years ago added plate tectonics, constantly rearranging the continents and also shaping long-term climate evolution by allowing the transfer of carbon dioxide to large land-based carbonate storages. Free oxygen did not exist until about 1.7 Ga ago and this can be seen with the development of the red beds and the end of the banded iron formations. This signifies a shift from a reducing atmosphere to an oxidising atmosphere. O2 showed major ups and downs until reaching a steady state of more than 15%The following time span was the Phanerozoic era, during which oxygen-breathing metazoan life forms began to appear.Currently, anthropogenic greenhouse gases are increasing in the atmosphere. According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, this increase is a causative factor in global warming.

Air pollution is the human introduction of chemicals, particulate matter, or biological materials that cause harm or discomfort to organisms, into the atmosphere. Stratospheric ozone depletion is believed to be caused by air pollution (chiefly from chlorofluorocarbons).Worldwide, air pollution is responsible for large numbers of deaths and respiratory disease. Enforced air quality standards, like the Clean Air Act in the United States, have reduced the presence of some pollutants. While major stationary sources are often identified with air pollution, the greatest source of emissions is actually mobile sources, principally the automobile.

One e-mail message, apparently from CRU director Phil Jones, references the U.K.s Freedom of Information Act when asking another researcher to delete correspondence that might be disclosed in response to public records law: Can you delete any emails you may have had with Keith re AR4? Keith will do likewise. Another, also apparently from Jones: global warming skeptics have been after the CRU station data for years. If they ever hear there is a Freedom of Information Act now in the UK, I think Ill delete the file rather than send to anyone. (Jones was a contributing author to the chapter of the U.N.s IPCC report titled Detection of Climate Change and Attribution of Causes.)
In addition to e-mail messages, the roughly 3,600 leaked documents posted on sites including Wikileaks.org and EastAngliaEmails.com include computer code and a description of how an unfortunate programmer named Harry — possibly the CRUs Ian Harry Harris — was tasked with resuscitating and updating a key temperature database that proved to be problematic. I am seriously worried that our flagship gridded data product is produced by Delaunay triangulation apparently linear as well. As far as I can see, this renders the station counts totally meaningless. It also means that we cannot say exactly how the gridded data is arrived at from a statistical perspective since were using an off-the-shelf product that isnt documented sufficiently to say that. Why this wasnt coded up in Fortran I dont know time pressures perhaps? Was too much effort expended on homogenisation, that there wasnt enough time to write a gridding procedure? Of course, its too late for me to fix it too. Meh.
I am very sorry to report that the rest of the databases seem to be in nearly as poor a state as Australia was. There are hundreds if not thousands of pairs of dummy stations, one with no WMO and one with, usually overlapping and with the same station name and very similar coordinates. I know it could be old and new stations, but why such large overlaps if thats the case? Aarrggghhh! There truly is no end in sight So, we can have a proper result, but only by including a load of garbage!

Growing concern, or Going Concern?
Picture the scene: You’ve left the house, forgetting you’ve only got five units of credit in the carbon bank (owned by the Rothschild family, coincidentally) which is communicating with the RFID chip in your right hand—the one you queued up to get inserted back in 2010, remember? It’s a good thirty-minute ride back home where your Family Carbon Credit Charger™ is situated, and you know that once your five remaining Carbon Credits® run out, you’re going to light up like a Christmas tree on the Carbon Debtor Detector Unit™ within one of the hundreds of Carbon Police vehicles patrolling the city.
You begin to take shallower breaths and hold them for longer. You’re getting a little dizzy but you know that if you can make it to the Pay As You Breathe® City Carbon Credit Top Up Unit a couple of streets away, you’ll be just fine. The Pay As You Breathe® rate is three times higher than the direct debit rate, of course, and you resent having to pay that much for something that was free only two years ago, but thinking about that upsets you, and getting agitated is only going to have you breathing harder, so you push it to the back of your mind and pick up the pace in order to get there before your remaining three credits run out. You can just about make out the City Carbon Credit Charger™ in the distance, despite the fact your vision is now beginning to blur due to lack of oxygen. You make it with half a Carbon Credit Unit® to spare and let out a huge sigh of relief, which, of course, uses up the rest of your credit. You then spot a passing Carbon Police patrol car as it turns on its light-bar and does a screeching u-turn in the middle of peak traffic. You touch your right hand to the receptor pad on the City Carbon Credit Top Up Unit® but instead of charging your credit, it flashes a message advising you to remain where you are and await assistance. Sure enough, the patrol car stops right alongside you and a Carbon Revenue Collection Agent steps out and approaches. “Afternoon, sir, I see you’ve just run out of carbon credit. Please pop your hand on the unit there, charge up and I’ll pretend I didn’t see it this time. After all, we’re not monsters, you know.”
You’ve seen that seemingly compassionate smile before, when your friend Bob was in the same position last week. And you remember the multiple tasering he got when it was revealed that he’d had his chip deactivated by a back street mobile phone vendor.
You hold your breath and nod emphatically while rubbing at the receptor pad like your life depends on it. The resulting high-pitched beeps arouse the agent’s suspicion and he scans your hand with his Citizenwatch 5000™, to discover that you have several outstanding parking tickets and your credit has been suspended. “I’m afraid you’re going to have to accompany me to the station, sir. Do you have anyone we can inform of your incarceration?”
You wish you’d stayed at home and paid those bloody tickets, instead of demanding proof of claim that the tickets actually applied to you, a non-’person’, living man-on-the-land, but all of that is forgotten as you slowly lose consciousness whilst hyperventilating in the back of the Police car. Just before you pass out, you hear, “Sir, you are now in contravention of the Exhalation Act 2011. You have the right to remain silent…”
Bearing in mind that we humans exhale carbon dioxide at a rate of 450ml per minute, and we’re supposed to be cutting down our output to save the planet, it stands to reason that the carbon tax should be extended to breathing, surely. Or at least it stands to reason as a politician might see it.
